ALP in practice: aircraft, contour and loading
Compatible aircraft
The ALP (LD11) is used on the lower deck of the Boeing 747, 777 and 787, the DC-10 and the MD-11, where the hold is wide enough for a rectangular container.
Typical use
The ALP carries large consolidated shipments and bulky cargo in the lower deck. Because it has no angled sides, its full width is usable at floor level, which suits wide pallets and crates.
Contour
The ALP is a plain box with a 3,175 × 1,534 mm base and the same width at the top. That gives more usable floor than an ALF of the same length, but it needs a hold wide enough for the full profile.
Loading limits
Maximum gross weight is 3,176 kg including the container. With a tare of roughly 160 to 185 kg, payload is about 2,990 to 3,015 kg. A centre post swings clear of the door for loading.
